 In ICC-profiles there exist two kinds of calculation methods:
- Matrix-based-profiles with 3x3-matrix and Tone Reproduction Curve (TRC)
- LUT-based-profiles with multidimensional Look-Up-Table (CLUT), Input- and Output-Curves
Matrix-based-profiles are only used for RGB-devices as display, scanner and workspace. They are quite small (20-100 kByte) in comparison to LUT-based-profiles, because only some values have to be stored in the profile.
LUT-based-profiles are used for all output devices which work in CMYK-system. Some RGB-devices like scanners, digital cameras or digital RGB-printer also use LUT-based-profiles. Because of the multidimensional look-up-tables inside of the profiles the size of LUT-based profiles is between 400 kByte and 2 MByte.
